Lady Murasaki Shikibu lived in the Heian Period of Japan.  She was the world's first modern novelist. She is the author of Genji-monogatari (The Tale of Genji) and the inspiration for Murasaki Book's imprint.

Murasaki Books publishes significant voices in West Coast drama and other writing.  Murasaki Books is especially interested in the works of female playwrights, but also in other works by West Coast writers in general.

Murasaki Book's first anthology, Living and Writing on America's Left Coast: Contemporary Women's Plays, will be published in Spring 2010.

Murasaki Books does not accept any submissions. 
Plays and works from other literary genres are selected via nomination and invitation only. The nomination process is confidential.  Thank you.
